Despite the global financial crisis, the revenue from tourism in Montenegro amounted to EUR 480 million in the period from January to September 2009, which is EUR 9 million more than the amount collected in the same period last year, national media reported on Friday (30 October 2009).
There was a slight fall (2 per cent) in the number of nights recorded for foreign tourists. Foreign tourists spent on average 6.37 days in Montenegro.
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded in coastal towns of Budva (44 per cent), Herceg Novi (24 per cent) Bar (12 per cent) and Ulcinj (9 per cent).
Records show that out of all tourists who holidayed on Montenegro’s coast this summer, 11 per cent of them were domestic visitors, 21 per cent came from states within the EU, 32 per cent from Serbia, 13 per cent from Russia, 18 per cent from the other countries in the region and 4 per cent from countries outside of Europe.
Montenegro’s border crossings saw a total of 9.5 million tourists, while a decline of 8 per cent was registered in the number of tourists arriving by air.
