Zabljak is situated in the north-west part of Montenegro, in the centre of Durmitor National Park. Perched at an altitude of 1450 m, it is one of the highest urban settlements in the Balkans.
Zabljak is the town with the longest tourism tradition in Montenegro and a favourite winter destination. Great number of visitors flocks every year to its snow covered slopes to enjoy skiing, snowboarding and other winter activities. In the summer many escape the heat of the cities to enjoy the tranquillity of village life.
For the more adventurous there are numerous hiking trails and mountain paths across Durmitor. A part of the National Park Durmitor, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the river Tara Canyon. The canyon is 80 km long and 1,300 m deep, second largest in the world, just behind Colorado Grand Canyon. Rafting on Tara is a real treat for adrenalin junkies.
